| 1 :: Model 500 (Juan Atkins)
- 'Night Drive (Thru-Babylon)'
(M-002 (Metroplex))
1985 |
|
 |
| Still an unbelievable tune after all these years. The Electro scene owes much to this pioneering track and even more to 'Clear'. Hi-tech funk motivated by Kraftwerk and a chance meeting with Rick Davies at a local community college became the foundation of Cybotron. After several releases ('Clear', 'Alleys of Your Mind', Cosmic Cars) Juan and Rick split to pursue different musical directions. Soon after Juan released 'Night Drive' under his Model 500 moniker refining the 'Clear' Electro sound. |

| 2 :: K
- 'Invisible'
(Audio Couture (AC 028))
1999 |
|
 |
| Audio Couture: a Moving Shadow subprint. It's goal: release the more experimental side of Drum and Bass. It's Acheivement: discovering Kjetil Sagstad, and releasing this tune. More Electro then Drum and Bass 'Invisible' continues where K's debut tune 'NightStalker' (AC014) (his other electro flavored cut), left off. Kjetil Sagstad is from Norway and a long time friend of Teebee who he now releases with on Certificate 18, as… Polar. |

| 3 :: Rip-Off Artist
- 'Real Scary Story'
from 'Substancia 2'
(Sub Rosa (sr180))
1999 |
|
 |
| Classy electronic tune with squelchy vocal distortions. Released on the Belgium label Sub Rosa, Rip-Off Artist is Matt Haines from California, USA. He returned to the Substancia series in 2001 with 'Gizmo'. Most of his releases are available on EMI/Right Stuff. |

| 4 :: DMX Krew
- 'Dance To The Beat'
from 'Sound of the Street'
(Rephlex)
1996 |
|
 |
| The Electro Pop King, Ed DMX maintains the funk while adding his unique vocal style. Probably one of the most conservative vocal tunes from his first full length on Richard D. James' (Aphex Twin) Rephlex label. Not as cheesy as Ed's popular Kraftwerk tribute 'Showroom Dummies', but still a DMX quality tune. Ed sings and raps on the majority of his releases. This album came with a free sticker. |

| 5 :: Kilo
- 'Nasty Dancer'
(Wrap Records)
1995 |
|
 |
| I can still remember the first time I heard it at a club in Nagoya, I was a young man then, and it became one of my 'Miami Bass' tunes. |

| 6 :: DMX Krew
- 'You Can't Hide You're Love (Aphex Twin Remix)'
(Rephlex (CAT029CD))
1997 |
|
 |
| One of the last Richard D. James remix treatments, of a much slower DMX Krew vocal tune. The original is a gem, straight 80's pop. The uncredited vocalist is probably frequent collaborator Tracy DMX. Aphex drastically kicks the beats up to 160 on this remix. |
