1 :: Acen - 'Close Your Eyes' (Production House) 1992
Definitely one of most popular hardcore tunes of all time, along with Acen’s other huge classic ‘Trip II the Moon’ (which was produced with help from Dice). ‘Close Your Eyes’ was his very first release, and an instant Hardcore anthem. When Oldskool fragmented into jungle and hardcore factions, Acen laid low for many years releasing an occasional single or remix. Finally 1999 saw the return of Acen Razvi, with an new updated Dark Drum and Bass sound, he has still managed to keep some of that Oldskool flavor intact. Heavy heavy sine bassline intro and Doors samples, made the ravers mad… Go insane was right.

2 :: Andy C - 'Slip N Slide' (Ram Records) 1993
Still a young man when he released this hardcore classic, Andy C has become even more well known now. Serious rave stabs here, alongside same wobbly bass that he bring to many jump up tunes he would produce later.

3 :: 2 Bad Mice - 'Hold It Down' (Moving Shadow) 1992
Yeees, the talented trio of Rob Playford, Sean O'Keeffe (the ‘helicopter’ pilot aka Deep Blue) and Simon Colebrooke roll this one. Ill sampled hook. Another hugely successful hardcore banga.

4 :: Sons of a Loop Da Loop Era - 'Far out' (Suburban Base)
Crazy keys on this one. Dropping in some of the first ragga vocals to be used in the pre-Jungle era. Sons of Loop Da Loop Era sound has changed over the year and so has he name. Releasing Hip Hop and Dark Drum and Bass these days he is known as Danny Breaks. Ardcore Junglist.

5 :: Krome and Time - 'This Sound is for the Underground' (Suburban Base) 1992
More hitmakers Bernard Simon and Terry Holt are responsible for many oldskool classics including this one. Bernard Simon also part of Phuture Assasins. Short breakdown to some steping drum and bass patterns. I love this old stuff. So raw, no filler. Basic and Brilliant.

6 :: Red Alert & Mike Slammer - 'Don't Need Your Love' (Slammin' Vinyl) 1993
N/A

7 :: Foul Play - 'Open Your Mind' (Moving Shadow)
This is special tune. Another one that make time stand still, and remember exactly when and where you heard. Gorgeous breakdown and vocal samples on this one from one of the finest production teams... Foul Play. Sadly, founding member Steve Bradshaw pass away to Multiple Sclerosis in 1997. The two remaining members have had only a handful of (hi quality) releases on the Partisan label since then.

8 :: Liquid - 'Music'
Nice, Nice, raw bassline programming. Programmed and pitched one note at a time straight out sampler. The panning keys and rarely used (at the time) background chord hints at creating an atmosphere hardcore hadn’t seen and what would eventually evolve into “Intelligent Jungle” and LTJs ‘Music’.
